Shovel Cam

In this shot it is from the point of view of the shovel. I find that i can take ideas from this as it is a very  innovative technique. It is also shot on a Canon 7D.

Breaking Bad

I recently started watching Breaking Bad, although for pleasure i found this TV series to have a lot of techniques and ideas that i can use for my experimental project.
In the second series of Breaking Bad a pink teddy begins to show up at the start of the episode, i can take inspiration from this as i find it mysterious, not giving a lot of the story away.

ORPHEUS (2011)

A film created for a second year University project with a brief to create an experimental film inspired by a poem or piece of art. Inspired by Gute Nacht. Orpheus |ˈôrfēəs|Greek Mythology a poet who went to the underworld after the death of his wife and secured her release from the dead, but lost her because he failed to obey the condition that he must not look back at her until they had reached the world of the living. Shot on 16mm film on a budget of £300.

This short experimental film is a fine example of something experimental. I believe that this helps me a lot to come up with ideas to do with my own experimental piece, the reason for this is because it uses a lot of effective and simple techniques to create something very effective.

The Black Hole (Phil and Olly,2008)

This is a short film about a man at work who gets annoyed with the photocopier, After kicking it in anger a piece of paper with a black hole on it appears. The black hole on the paper has the power to get through objects. This leads to this worker to start stealing things and eventually to his dismay get him self stuck in the safe. 

I enjoy this short film as it is simple and clever, i feel that the way it looks is dark and so is the humour. 

Apricot (Ben Briand, 2009)


"Written and Directed by Briand, Apricot tells the story of a young couple on a date early in their relationship, they sit in a restaurant, reminiscing of first kisses and first loves over a fresh cup of coffee. However, as the date progresses it quickly becomes apparent that this trip down memory lane has an ulterior motive for one of the potential lovers."

I feel that i can take a lot from this short film as i believe it is simple yet very effective it is also very clever. Apricot is also beautifully shot. 

Steel Homes (Eva Webber, 2008) 

Steel homes is a short documentary which focuses on self storage units, this short documentary looks into a variety of different opinions surrounding the self storage units, such as; past memories, dreams and possessions of sentimental value. In this short documentary it is narrated by people who have a self storage unit, they speak about their feelings on the self storage unit and what it means to them.

 During which one person describes it as a "nameless corridor" i feel that this is something that the director wants to make the audience feel to begin with, i believe this because in the start of the short documentary it is very mysterious. The director uses a lot of long shots to show this and to also give the idea that the self storage units had emptiness about them. In the beginning i also believe it is hard to understand what it is going on, i think that this works well as the mystery of it all has the audience wanting more. Although i do think that this is a very insightful piece i also do think that it drags out for longer than necessary, repeating itself quite a lot. Overall i do believe that this short documentary holds a lot of merit as it looks into something that from the outside could appear very boring but when you take a closer look can find something very interesting. The one change i would definitely consider is to change the length of it or possibly to find something different and more interesting within the storage units so that it had a reason to go on this long.
